A multi-national bank partnered with InfoCepts to scale its analytics tools portfolio in support of a 40,000+ user base
InfoCepts successfully accelerated cloud migration and modernization of a data and analytics platform for a global luxury retailer, reducing operating costs by 30%, improving system performance by 20%, and expanding its user base by 35%.
The bank’s enterprise data management (EDM) team centralized its data in a Teradata-based warehouse and generated reports using MicroStrategy. It had leveraged the respective vendors’ professional services teams to build the initial set of data marts and financial reports for 500 users.
The need for wider enterprise reporting grew—many business units wanted new analytics applications. But the EDM team lacked expertise to scale, maintain, and enhance the application. Many platform capabilities remained largely unexplored, making it difficult to commercialize the platform to a larger user base
The focus had shifted to advanced capabilities such as self-service reporting, self-service data preparation, data virtualization, data quality, metadata, and data science. The bank had also moved to a large data lake, created a common data fabric, and faced changes in regulations, data security, and governance policies. Our customer sought a vendor-neutral technology partner to keep pace with changes and manage its growing analytics tool portfolio.
InfoCepts’ cross-functional team enabled the bank to scale its analytics platform capabilities, its usage, and its support structure across business units and geographies. We started by helping stabilize and support the bank’s financial analytics application. We worked with other business units to develop quick PoCs and analytics applications to support businesses in data-driven and address their regulatory reporting needs. These initial successes built confidence in the analytics platform and the analytics propelled wide-scale adoption.
The bank’s analytics tool portfolio grew with the addition of Tableau for self-service analytics, Paxata for data preparation, Informatica for data management, and SAS for data science. InfoCepts now supports the bank end-to-end in the areas of tools engineering, application development, and support across all analytics platforms
Tools Engineering – Through tool and feature evaluations, InfoCepts architects continue to define and advance the bank’s analytics platform roadmap. We became the go-to advisors for the business teams’ analytics initiatives supported by our Tableau and MicroStrategy Centers of Excellence. Through focused user group training and demo, we also helped increase user adoption. Now widely used within the bank, we’ve developed a knowledge base consisting of guidelines and best practices.
Application Development – InfoCepts engages a project manager, application architects, and developers to build analytics applications for 15+ business units and functions within the bank. We support business managers in the scoping, high-level solution design, estimation, and resourcing for analytics projects. In addition, we govern cross-project integration touchpoints and provide quality governance.
Platform Support – InfoCepts initially supported the bank’s MicroStrategy platform. Over time, our team matured the support model, establishing processes, service levels, and benchmarks. When additional tools were onboarded, our team quickly cross-trained and effortlessly took control. We held end-to-end accountability for change/problem management, service optimization, automation, and capacity monitoring for all the tool platforms. In addition, we perform periodic tool upgrades and support the execution of audits and BCP.
